Are you a green-blue coder who gets mostly stuck on the Div1 Easy?
Or a Codecheffer who tends to score about 4-6 points in the Long Contest?
Three simple words can make enough difference to turn that 4-6 into a 7-8, or a Div1-Div2 border TopCoder, to a blue-yellow border one. Here they are: "This is doable"
I've very often noticed that (esp. in Codechef Long Contests, since they span 10 days) if you think that the problem is attemptable, then it already chucks out about 20% of the difficulty. And if its in a long contest, then it chucks out 40%. If you know someone among your friends who's solved it, you think, "If he can, so can I".
So, if you are someone who solves less than half the 500 pointers on TopCoder because you just don't see the solution, start by thinking, "this is doable"
; if you're a codecheffer who just doesn't solve the Medium difficulty problems, start by thinking, "this is doable"
and you will definitely find a lot of problems that you thought were unattemptable, are now solved!
This post was inspired by the fact that I managed to solve the previous SRM (588) Div1 Hard problem today, to test this belief-system.
